A Scanner Darkly 2006
some of the more grating actors in the world mixed with some grating visuals. a concussion of a film. rotoscoping underutilized and doesn't fully justify itself. just because it's a drug film doesn't mean the film necessarily be muddled in terms of conveying ideas properly. feels more like an inability to convey ideas rather than purposely trying to be a drug-fueled haze.

snowpiercer but way more subtle and in a house instead of a train and also way more exciting. i did not FEEL IT like other people did. it is still intellectually too on the nose at points, taking me out of the movie. but it is a much more honest try at class inequity discussions than snowpiercer and i appreciate the pacing of this infinitely more as well. i like that house!
