This film was not what I expected, but regardless, it hit all the chords of what it is like growing up Asian-American. The family dynamics, educational pressures, unaddressed micro-aggressions (and the awkwardness + hurt that comes from hearing it), and the constant sense of shame for not living up to a worthy title despite your (immigrant) parent’s struggles. Teared up here and there, but that last scene? Bawled. I love you mom 🫶🏼
