Spider-Man: Homecoming 2017
I am so glad there was no origin story. Many don't like how young this version of Peter Parker is and I can see their objections. Honestly however, this film made me not care. I loved the seemingly-endless awkwardness the poor kid encounters, stirred up nicely with more dangerous aspects of what he does. I liked the support characters, the villain (geez Keaton, you can scare me in three seconds flat), the mundane issue of keeping track of his backpack.…

War for the Planet of the Apes 2017
A lot less of the triumphant all-out-battle violence than I expected. More...sad. Definitely a side to the Planet of the Apes saga that I hadn't considered. Full of blacks and whites, except for characters that exist to point out the exceptions. Wonderful score, as well.

The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
God, this is a fantastic movie. Wes Anderson, you go on and do exactly what you do. From the storybook styling to the hilariously-timed cussing to the quaintly upbeat soundtrack--ack, so much love for this gift of a film. My memories of it are vivid, even after 3 years. Just typing these thoughts make me watch to rewatch it.

Okay, some of those shots go on forever. Not as long as 2001: A Space Odyssey did, so it's fine.
Definitely a noir sci-fi monster of a film that I cannot forget. And yes, partly because of the '80s fashion and hairstyles that took me out of the movie.
