This movie is hilarious and I wish that everyone would watch it to have a smile in their day.

This movie was another childhood favorite of mine; one that sparked my interest in reading and academics because I was hoping it would give me superpowers like hers. This movie had a strong storyline: smart girl, dumb adopted parents, people mistreat her and she schemes back at them, and finally she gets a happy ending with Miss Honey. Matilda is an interesting character because she is gifted and presents as a well-behaved and mature young child despite unfortunate, neglectful circumstances.

This movie was a childhood favorite, especially around Halloween. The concept of a house being alive did no favors to me at 6 years old, afraid of the unfinished basement in my grandparent's house, though I loved the story. Maybe it's just because I watched this movie as a kid, but the show does a good job of getting the audience emotionally involved. When the old man died, I cheered the first time I watched it. It's still one of my favorite movies because I watched it so much as a kid, but I rarely watch it anymore.
