I enjoyed Mickey 17. It was a fun romp in an interesting and satirical sci-fi setting. It has a lot of strengths: the cinematography, the writing, and many of the performances (notably from Pattinson, Ackie, and Ruffalo) were excellent. I would also be remiss to forget the great set design and the VFX artists (DNEG, I believe) who made me feel that cloning in film was magical again. My main two issues with the film are in its overly dense narrative and its lack of great emotional heft. But overall, it’s quite charming. Bring the baby!

This film is doing the comedic equivalent of tightrope walking for its entire runtime. Incredible writing, pitch perfect performances, and near flawless execution. I love this film. Now I want a hot fudge sundae!

Brilliantly performed, meticulously directed, and enchantingly written. Despite its short runtime, there is room enough for moments of filmmaking genius. Loved my time with it, and was pleased to have Daniela Michel and Alexander Payne expound upon the film’s context in a lovely post-screening discussion.

Perhaps the 3D/2D mix of animation isn’t flawless; perhaps the more abstract imagery can border on corny. None of that diminished what I consider to be a truly heartfelt ode to jazz and the people who play it. An inspiring film that, perhaps, will encourage me to keep practicing my piano!
