Been a long time. Still as weird and wonderful as ever.

It was okay, but not on par with all the others which I loved. It got knocked down significantly due to the child peril. 🤷♂️
Wanted to like this more than I did. The directing, editing, acting… all the technical aspects were amazing. However. I didn’t think I’d ever find a movie that was too batshit for even me. This one was. I couldn’t even understand what was happening. I think if I watch it again I’ll like it better.
The first half should’ve been half as long, and the second half twice as such. I went from bored to riveted.
I really have no love for the original, but this one made my jaw drop. It could have simply been as beautiful as it was, with no storytelling behind it, and it would have still been a masterpiece. Instead, Villeneuve also made it interesting and haunting and riveting, but it’s the same epic soundscape he showcased in Dune. It’s a work of art. It takes all the good ambiance of the original and uses it to far better effect. I was pretty well blown away.
How does this movie never get old??
Probably the first one the kiddo was superduper into, too. 🙂
My spoiler-free review (may be spoilers in the comments):
It took me a bit to get into this movie. It’s definitely over the top, and that takes some adjustment. But in retrospect, it’s exactly what I’ve always wanted out of a Doctor Strange movie. I really liked the first one - and I think it holds up on rewatch better than many MCU movies - but I felt like I wasn’t quite getting what I wanted. This time, I got…
A bit overlong and slow in parts, but overall I really liked it. Quite the mindfuck at times, though.
Such a weird little tragedy of a movie, though I think I did enjoy it, and it was beautifully shot, especially toward the end. But it’s a good thing Alien was such a banger, or we’d have probably never heard of Ridley Scott.
Bonus points for a random Albert Finney pop-in, though. And I will say there’s no way Lin-Manuel Miranda never saw this movie.
