how does one articulate ordinary devotion ? how does one remember beyond trying not to forget ? how does one bury a shadow ? how does one return home ?

the orange of the sunset -- i know this buzzing stillness in my bones -- moved me to tears. when i discussed this film with my dearest pal from winnipeg and recounted choreographies of concrete , it was this shot that stood out for us both. in recounting this hue as shared by rankin's viewfinder tears returned for us both.

winnipeg forever , i told all the stars above.

it was after midnight when we left the theatre, and all the doors in les galeries du parc were locked. a group of us, we of this monday night, wandered as neon signs flickered off and escalators slowed in search of an exit. this late seventies structure made of concrete seemed in that moment to share its past lives. eventually, we found a janitor who let us know which alarmed door was alright to set off, and we were released into the night.

this experience was certainly a more satisfactory epilogue because , rather , it is the journey.
