I think this movie took itself a lot more seriously than the first movie. The stakes were there and the twist at the end was interesting. Something you haven't seen in the PR sphere in years. Is it an Emmy nomination? No, but it tried with what it got and an actual teenager as a power ranger instead of the 20 somethings that we got was fun.
This was my introduction to Mahershala Ali and I have been a huge fan ever since.
I think the prequel was ironically a crutch for this movie. Its antagonist wasn't as strong of a character as Syndrome, but they could still knock the family dynamics out of the park. Instead of the mother taking care of everything, while the father is the breadwinner, the roles are reversed and the film shows the life of a stay at home parent as a cycle of growth. Bob's not perfect, which makes this storyline feel real and ideal.
They captured parenting so well. They are allowed to be flawed and express the struggles of being a parent. Trusting your kids, telling them the hard truths of life, but allowing them to grow on their own.
