  Not every musical translates to screen… this is one of them. An absolute rollercoaster of emotions between laughing at cringy dialogue, editing, and pandering to young adult audiences, and crying at a few genuinely poignent moments. Even if all of its mistakes had been fixed, I don’t think even the best film adaption of this stage production would be a good movie. It’s a story better told with more simplicity. Although some of the character developments in the film were appreciated. (The two new songs were absolutely forgettable however).
