This film was a lot sadder than I expected honestly. Once you look past the raunchy/disturbing sex scenes you'll see just how achingly lonely the protagonists are. They indulge in sexual and cinematic fantasies in an attempt to invest their lives with meaning, only to find themselves stuck in a simulacrum of reality. They become so cocooned in their psycho-sexual/cinematic games that they lose touch entirely with the concrete societal issues occurring just outside their window.
