Saltburn 2023
This movie did its best to shock me into thinking it was good. I think it could’ve achieved that goal with a bit more nuance, but in the end it spoon feeds the viewer the shocking twist that would be far more impressive if it was left in ambiguity. The best thing Saltburn has going for it is its characters, who are acted spectacularly and give their all to the performance (arguably a disturbing amount of “all,” in barry keoghan’s case). This movie had the makings of something interesting, which made it even more disappointing when it ultimately failed to deliver.
