This movie feels like it came out in 1990, should have came out in 2020, but actually premiered in 2000. Christian Bale and Willem Dafoe carry this movie on their backs, but even Christian Bale isn’t a great Wall Street psychopath. Feels like an Alfred Hitchcock thriller all the way through.
Benedict Cumberbatch excels in his portrayal of the brilliant autist, Alan Turing. He brings depth and insight to arguably one of the most important mathematicians/geniuses of the 20th century.
Overall, a well written tale about the cracking of Enigma & development of the world’s first computer.
Your typical Wes Anderson film. Gets really meta, as it is essentially a story about actors within a play within a film. Iffy start but the story gets really interesting towards the end of the first act. Scarlet Johansson is great, as are most of the other well known actors. As always, Anderson uses the same crew as his previous films. Ending sucked though
Barry Keoghan is hauntingly autistic in what would prove to be a break out performance for the young actor. Following Robert Downey Jr.’s timeless advice of ‘never going full-retard’ while filming a motion picture, the young actor, Keoghan, toe’s that line in spectacular fashion. Colin Farrell’s character also tells his dying son that he once jerked off his father to completion while his dad was passed out drunk. Yeah we’re not really sure what the director was thinking either, but that’s showbiz baby!
