What a different take on the hero’s journey, and the portrayal of the love interest in this film. Of course most of it does follow the same path most journey’s do, but the background stories felt refreshing and the lore of this whole universe was captivating. I do have a gripe of how sexualized they made the love interest but I am glad I watched it overall. Not sure if I would watch it again though.

This film captivated me in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Something is calling to you quietly that you can’t seem to ever ignore fully. Although I don’t know what it’s like to go through what the main character experiences in this film, I could still empathize with the terrifying fear and regret of never getting to be fully you. I was left in shambles but I’m glad I watched it.

I wish it had more back story (I guess that’s what the manga is for), but I really loved it. I did feel like the ending was rushed, but it felt also inevitable that it would turn out that way

This hit me in my core in many aspects. From seeing reflections of my own father in the boys dad to reminiscing the times I’ve spent with my brothers at that age. Kids are kids and I’ve never seen a better depiction of it than this film. I would also like to mention the beautiful ways this film showed emotions through different mediums. I came out of this a little bit more healed, and for that I’m forever grateful.
