textbook themes of traditional familial roles, violent alcoholism and psychological effects of sexual violence all combined masterfully to build up the strength and courage of a mother when her children need her. wish we would have focused a little more on the children’s characters than jake’s, as toxic masculinity was already quite a prevalent topic and was a little heavily covered. only somewhat satisfying ending, although grace’s death casted a grim shadow of realism.
