i want to say that i am too feminist / too modern to understand the way things work in 60s paris (it is also marked as comedy so maybe rohmer was trying to make fun of forming marriages, but doubt so), but the audacity that jean louis had was familiar to me that i see a lot of women yearn for, but realised by only men.
the ease of vulnerability when you have no intention to commit, but that yearning…
went into it with no expectations and my first ever varda — genuine concern that i’ve become too complacent by men’s lack of that the outcome did not surprise me one bit. finding out that it falls under the horror genre made me realise that it rings through to the reality that this world is terrifying, so long as it continues to be dominated and led by the ugly antagonist and his kind.
