I always like to come back to this whenever I can. It manages to get me out of my boxes and it's something really motivating. Ryan Coogler brilliantly directs this, knocks it out of the park, there's a whole shot where the camera dances along with Michael B. Jordan, following in his footsteps, like he's just another boxer. It's truly fantastic, accompanied by an unforgettable score by Ludwig Goransson who does some truly wild legwork and is full of heart, as is everything in this film.

    The Woman King

Remember when this was ignored by the Academy? How do we allow that? The Woman King has such a powerful voice and finds it in this story about warriors led by the formidable Viola Davis who, together with Thuso Mbedu (who in 2021 captivated me in The Underground Railroad) carry the emotion of this beautiful film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The sound, the editing, the incredible cinematography and the unforgettable score by Terrence Blanchard are something to recognize in every aspect.
