Black Bag 2025
Aw yeah, that’s the stuff. Might be overrating it a tad, but just felt great to see an honest-to-god movie in the theater* with a delightfully twisty plot and inspired casting that made me feel as warm and fuzzy as the film’s lighting. Wouldn’t be surprised to find this on my best-of-2025 list.

A sudden crisis with an unknown duration. Increased outdoor interaction with neighbors and friends. Personal and political discontentment spilling out into the public square.
Five years on from the dawn of the COVID era, In the Heights serves as an accidental yet richly drawn (and sung) synecdoche for that particularly fraught moment in modern American history.
Really proud of the essay I wrote on this unlikely connection and the circumstances of seeing this cinematic sueñito in theaters.
