  Laid back, loosely plotted, funny, and unrestrained. The Taste of Tea is as much a pastoral study of rural Japanese life as it is a celebration of human eccentricities and behaviour.

  The film examines a number of Japanese tropes and subcultures: Anime, cosplay, otakus, manga artists, pop stars, the Yakuza, baseball players, and more but does so without feeling stale or overstated.
