    Don’t think anything can be more hilarious than certain line deliveries in cantonese. Punk naivety, with HK being the perfect backdrop for that narrative attitude (better than Tokyo in Akira IMO). The montage of documented photos at the end added a powerful layer to the film, which I would otherwise find a bit too action-focused and for-the-spectacle. Deserves rewatches.

    Stunning establishing sequences reminiscent of Yi Yi (montage when haesung arrives NY), 35mm is so king. This is the type of film I gravitate towards: relationship-driven, steady pacing, quotidian moments, subtle yet complex revelations, and most importantly conversations that are well-padded out and dance with tension, framed by a confident, deliberate, and patient camera (usually quiet long shots and takes) that gives breathing room while managing to not overstay its welcome (merry-go-round scene, bathroom / kitchen scene, uber scene).
