  Second time trying to watch this. The first time I was super tired and was not prepared to remember all the names that appeared within the first 10 minutes - with the arriving servants taking the names of their masters and mistresses rather than their own.

  Second time around I became fully engrossed - probably one of the saddest whodunnits ever. Emily Watson is brilliant as Elsie and Kristin Scott Thomas' wardrobe is perfection.

  So much to enjoy about this movie.
  The two leads are brilliant both together and individually. They've each got their own shit going on but when they're together the world is (kind of) okay.
  You can't take anything for granted with this movie. You literally haven't seen anything like it. However, it did make me think of American History X and Drive.
  The styling by Olga Mill, plus hair and makeup by Megan Daum and Frieda Valenzuela is perfection - add this to a thoughtful soundtrack and you get pulled into the late '80s courtesy of mullets and shell jackets.

  I'm a big Guadagnino fan but this is the first film of his that I've found myself willing it to come to an end. I think the trailer made it feel more magical, dreamy and romantic. But it lacked the beauty of CallMe By Your Name, the shock of Bones and All or Suspiria and the hilarity of A Bigger Splash. Still looking forward to his version of American Psycho though!
