The Vourdalak 2023
Truly a strange wonderful film, an absolute throwback in the best way possible. A 1974 french horror movie made in 2024 with all the fun and oddity that entails. Beautifully shot, brilliantly acted, and some incredible sound design all immerse you into this strange, dream like eastern European nightmare. I cannot recommend this enough and you should see it as soon as possible.

Sorcery 2023
A strange, surreal, somber exploration of a young woman's grief and unrealised rage at a system built to kill her soul. This movie requires multiple viewings to really understand the levels of symbolism, but after the first viewing I have to say that Sorcery is well worth your time. While its definitely not for everyone I can't help but recommend this very strange picture.

Avatar: The Way of Water 2022
One of the most impressive looking films ever made, seriously impressive and surprisingly boring. The story, characters, themes, and ideas you've all seen before, but never like this. The only real way to see this movie is in the theaters, preferably in 3d and IMAX. The only thing that will be remembered about this film is how god damn pretty it is...but maybe that's enough.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 2022
Worse than the first, better then literally every other MARVEL movie to come out this year. The highlights for me were the costumes, sets, and performances from Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. The world of Wakanda and Talokan both look beautiful and distinct while also incorporating pieces of culture from the nations that provided real world inspiration. Bland action and a stupid long run-time bring this movie down in rankings of MARVEL crap, but there are certainly worse ways to waste 3 hours. Seriously though, Winston Duke is the highlight of every scene he's in and should definitely get his own tv show or something.
