The Brutalist 2024
i can’t get over how the score amplifies everything Corbet wants you to feel, from the booming brass in the opening reflecting Tóth’s hopeful arrival in the US into a promising new start, to the constant rhythmic driving reflecting his passion, accompanied by the dissonant polyphony reflecting the greed and exploitation of Van Bruen, corrupting Tóth’s hope and ambition for the american dream, and ultimately reflecting his spiral and unravelling into anger and aggression.
i think this film and its cinematography is a masterpiece, well worthy of its praise.

To Catch a Thief 1955
i think this has to be one of, if not my favourite Hitchcock film.
while it’s not as suspenseful as rear window or vertigo, there are still exciting moments of tension, albeit more lightweight than other Hitchcock classics. the ambience created by the green, nocturnal tint in the nighttime scenes, the witty script full of innuendo, the fantastic setting, and of course Cary Grant and Grace Kelly- what’s not to love about To Catch a Thief?
