Set to the backdrop of one the greatest examples of world building and art direction in any form of fiction, Cowboy Bebop is a slick mixture of jazz filled cyber crime and Wild West cowboy space battles. It’s a perfect concoction of the best aspects of Si-Fi and westerns that creates a tone that no other anime has ever been able to replicate.

The series is able to achieve all of its greatness primarily due to how brilliant the pacing…

All About Lily Chou-Chou reminded me of the true power a film can have. To see a reflection of yourself in a film and to connect with something made completely without the knowledge that you exist half way across the world. It reminds you that no matter how you feel someone, somewhere, feels the same way. Loved all of the establishing shots of New York, these classic New York noirs always just have the coolest look to them.

Drive My Car is one of the few cases where I don’t think I can write a proper review. I know that’s a bit of a cop out but I genuinely can’t conjure up the words to describe why this is so endlessly impactful. If this film even slightly interests you, don’t hesitate to watch it. It’s at my spot for the best film of the year and think it’s going to be a tall order for any film in the next decade to surpass it.

A really heartwarming Christmas film that intelligently and comedically uses miracles to progress the plot. Definitely a change of pace for Satoshi Kon but his usual mind bending film tactics are present. It’s not my favourite of his work but it’s instantly become a go-to Christmas film for me, one I can see myself revisiting this time of year for many years to come.
