Like a zesty starter, which you might not recall by the following day. But it zapped past, making me feel alert, zoned in, feeling smart for following along. Categorically this didn't waste a minute of its slim runtime, and didn't bore me. Sharp dialogue, nice score too. Probably won't make a best of end-of-year, but just now, felt entertained, and that's just fine.

Wow this was poor. The early sight of several crappy Brit actors being vaguely comic should have served as a clear indication that something was off here, but the film blunders on. On on. Tonally it's all over the place - some reviews have been kind enough to suggest this is a good thing, like a Boog Joon-ho signature, but here it's end-to-end mismatch, ill serving the would-be satire. Comes across like a baggy mash-up of Brazil and Fifth Element…

Just insufferable. Someone with talent and vision, or even just a vague notion to perhaps stretch the audience, might have dug deep and mined the odd original story for something interesting. Imagine what someone like Terence Davies could have brought to the material, but no, every cliche is underlined in thick ink. Utter waste of two fine actors, with some lamentable dialogue, and truly lazy plotting. Worst film I've sat through for years.

Late night flicking across the streaming services landed me here. So wish it hadn't. This recent film is so poor that it managed to utterly trash any lingering nostalgia I had for the first film in the series (which I went to see twice the week it opened back in the late 70s). No idea why I watched till the end apart from late night stupor. Nil suspense, sluggish pacing, sad dialogue, hardly any traction gained from the internal mythology…
