    Captain America: The Winter Soldier

    ★★★★

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is surprisingly cogent for a Marvel movie, coming very close to relaying "themes" and "ideas". However, it's not actually about past vs. future or trust and security, and is instead about the different boyfriends Steve Rogers has had throughout his life. There will never be another movie like this again, and that's probably for the best.

    The Royal Tenenbaums

    ★★★★½

I love Wes Anderson, so it might come as a surprise that I hadn't seen this film until now. I'm glad I fixed that. The Royal Tenenbaums is a film about a dysfunctional family brought together after 17 years, about reconciliation and failure and redemption. It's a wonderful story, made even better by the love and attention that Anderson gives his characters. Everyone feels like a real person, which may come as a surprise considering their larger than life eccentricities,…
