  This movie reeked of a man’s hand. 
  The story wasn’t original? I’m confused by so many of the reviews praising its characterization when Julie lacked any substance at all — what were her interests besides her relationships with men? why didn’t we explore her and her mother more, especially given the turn in the third act? why was Aksel, the middle-aged anti-PC culture edgelord comic artist, the only voice of reason and guidance for Julie, a (poorly written) educated “feminist”?…

  The Daniels described their film as a “maximalist’s manifesto for surviving in the noise of modern life” and I don’t think I can summarize this movie any better. It was a multi-genre, hilarious and heartbreaking film about coming to terms with both you and the world being a little bit shit, and that’s … kind of the point of it all. The worst version of yourself might just be the hero.
