  Oh My Horror 2025 - Week 6: Black directors

  Really more of a drama with some folklore elements than actually horror. It looks great, and Anna Diop is amazing. The biggest problem here is that the end reveal comes very suddenly and then gets wrapped up in about 3 minutes. What was a pretty compelling story just fizzles out in the end.

  There are several really interesting things going on in this early slasher from Craven. For one thing, you have a mystery element that presages the Scream franchise. Then you have a shot that looks pretty similar to the iconic bathtub scene he shot in A Nightmare On Elm Street three years later. And then there's a twist that feels a lot like the one from another notorious eighties…
