  The farcical elements really worked for me, but they were dampened by how devastatingly helpless (and flat) Anora’s character was. I needed her to win so bad!!!!

  Sandra Bullock gives one of her weaker performances in this film, and as a Sandy B stan I don’t make that claim lightly. There’s a lot of nuance in Ruth’s character—she’s a sympathetic protagonist that you question if you’re supposed to like. Bullock’s performance lacked those nuances, but the screenplay did her no favours. Dialogue lacked authenticity and any sort of rawness that you’d expect from such subject matter. Cheap twists, flat characters, and mediocre performances.

  On the other hand, super cool to recognize so many Vancouver spots!!
