Purple Noon 1960
The views here astound, indoors and out. This alone puts a gloss on the film that makes it irresistible. And I actually prefer the ambiguity about how Tom got to Italy, who Philippe and Tom are, or why we should bother caring. It works because Tom frequently enters new situations blindly, confidently, and it works because no one else really knows who Tom is either. This is all brilliant.
