  Don't get me wrong, this movie is Not Good. But it is oddly charming. Even--especially??--those bonkers, cringe-inducing song and dance dream sequences; note the plural, because some genius decided that one over-long, embarrassingly 80s music video sequence expressing the protagonist's teenage angst and hormones just wasn't enough; no, the first time was so perfect and brilliant they needed a SECOND one!   Once I accepted I was essentially watching a futuristic Shakespearean history play, I was along for the ride. FFC had a vision, and he executed it in consummate Coppola style, through and through, for better or worse. That execution and style isn't 100% for me--his aesthetic choices are very very seldom 100% for anybody nowadays--but I respect the vision, ambition, passion, and earnestness.
