Culkin is outstanding. His Oscar was well-deserved. Not the most uplifting film but it is a rather compelling character sketch. It’s not my usual fare, but I’m glad to have seen it.

Hard to know what to say about this one. The overall story arc is both interesting and good, but the choice to make it half musical-half drama is a bit distracting. The music is well done, but what does it really add to the story? I tend to think that it would be better with more music or less music. Basically, make a choice and avoid the split-personality feeling the film seems to have.
