Beau Travail 1999
This was a gorgeous film, with a phenomenal soundtrack and scoring, and great acting - but, the plot was a little wispy. A little too much subtext over substance.
The Gainax ending was left-field, but pretty cool. I'll definitely have The Rhythm of the Night stuck in my head for a while.

The Handmaiden 2016
lesbian scams is the shortest way to describe this film. it was a beautifully filmed movie, with great plot twists and callbacks. the sets were incredible and the shots built up so much tension. the acting was superb as well. the sex scenes were a little gratuitous though - preventing me from giving it a higher score. it felt like i watched a fully fleshed out tv series, but pulled up xvideos in between episodes
