First of all: Forest Whitaker was AMAZING.
Ok so…on the one hand, plącage was real. Folks were like “how much of this is really historical?”
Gens de couleur was real and lowkey still is. The right person will still tell you about how their light skin is better than dark skin. I bet this film didnt really do its justice due of the system because rape was way more rampant.

This film was some bullshit for many reasons. The main one being how dumb Rosemary was. Like…dumb as hell. Girl, why are NOT taking prenatal vitamins? Why are you NOT questioning why ur neighbors are so damn nosy? Why did you NOT take it there with ur husband after the rape? The visible scratches?! Girl. Pissed me off!

Although there were some spots that I wished were different, this is a very thoughtful film. I saw a lot of the reviews dismissed it and declared it something OTHER because of lack of understanding IMO. Black American films set around slavery have been a many.
