After rewatching it again I realised that tom was the problem. He set himself up for heartbreak. He ignored Summer’s boundaries, turned her into an idealized version of what he wanted, and acted like he was owed her love just because he had feelings for her. His pain wasn’t caused by anything Summer did. She was honest with him from the start. The problem was that Tom didn’t listen.
