I love this movie! I haven’t seen it in a while and now that I’m getting closer to 30 I decided to watch it and it’s just so much fun and really grounds us to remember we get to decide who we are and every choice makes us who we are. It’s a reminder to be kind and choose kindness. It’s not so much about worrying about age it’s more about focusing on who you are and who you want to be.
I finally saw this film after wanting to see it for years. I really liked the way the story flowed from present to past but at times it was a bit difficult to tell which time we were in. The tint of yellow / some change in hair styles/behaviors kinda helped. I really enjoyed the creative style the film took by being a musical for such a serious hard topic of violence in Latin countries, gangs and also gender identity. The songs really made scenes more powerful and made me feel so emotional. It really felt like it took a moment to emphasize the corruption, sadness, longing for acceptance. Zoe and Karla did an amazing job in their roles and the story line was original and hopeful.
Wow this movie did not go where I thought it was going to go! I enjoyed it a lot. It made me laugh or I had a smile on my face like 70% of the time and the other 30 % had me in disbelief and also screaming to the tv “JUST TELL HIM” *potential spoilers*
