Another addition to the long catalogue of material on Bob Dylan. Uneccessary? Yes. Money grabbing? Yes. Blinding us to our current cultural stagnation by making audiences feeling like they have a leg into a world where the future was still something to look forward to? Maybe, but the film flowed well, and performances were believable.

I find the love of Ellen and Hutter to be believable, which is rare in modern cinema. I'm not sure if this is because they were constantly compared to something grotesque (Nosferatu). Normally what is labeled "good" is actually quite scary and bad, and visa versa. Eggers is able to tap into a dream like state of the brain, where whatever he tells to be "good" is actually good and "bad" is actually bad. His movies feel like reading a storybook or fairy tale, rather than a film, which has an incredibly frightening effect in a very pure way.

I only saw 1/3, not 30 minutes, I just could only see the top portion of the screen. But the soundtrack was perfect and silly.

I am happy they made the specific politics ambiguous, it made the film so immersive and intense, unlike any other war film in how it captured the confusion. There wasn't an over reliance on sentimental eye candy (children, or mothers or pets) the film felt grounded in its devotion to telling the story, rather than forcing you to be dragged into the warzone, you felt yourself enticed to it, in a scary and alien way, much like the war photographers.
