    The Batman

    ★★★★

The Batman is stunningly shot and edited, with mind-blowing lighting compositions that make Gotham feel almost tangible. Reeves shows such a sure hand while directing, often letting the action unfold in locked-down wides or illuminating scenes solely through muzzle flashes. One of the film’s most underrated strengths is its powerful use of silence, that highlights Pattinson’s (who has slowly morphed into one of my favourite working actors today) mesmerizing performance. While some elements deviate from the source material and feel forced, this feels like a cinephile’s take on the Caped Crusader—only more rewarding on rewatch.

Every few years, DDL emerges from retirement and gives a banger performance and vanishes.
Gangs of New York is a true epic, shaped by the brilliance of Scorsese. Despite it's demanding runtime, it doesn't lose it's grip. The final minute of this film is a surge of raw emotion. When asked to cut the Twin Towers from the closing shot, Scorsese refused, saying, "This film is about those who built New York, not those who tried to destroy it."
Up there with one of the best endings ever.

Meiyazhagan is not your typical run of the mill Tamil movie. It's a slow, mature and reflective film that beckons us to partake in it's emotional journey, and Vasantha's beautiful score is to thank. Karthi is an absolute scene stealer providing a much-needed balance to the film's demanding runtime. It's not a film I'd revisit but I'm glad I checked it out.
