  Hooptober 11: Angels & Demons

  Impressive gnarly body horror about sexism and aging in Hollywood, without feeling too heavy handed or overly spelled out for the audience. Fargeat’s directing steals the spotlight here— I loved every choice. When I think terrible things about my body, I’ll think about this movie to check myself… and that’s good filmmaking.

  I had way more patience for The Monkey than I did Longlegs, but I’m walking away feeling like I’m still not totally the audience for Oz’s films even when he’s doing my beloved horror comedy. I really loved a new approach to Stephen King, who definitely is full of bloody campy nostalgia as much as he is all about that psychological gothic. Overall, did not gel but, a begrudging “like.” Would watch again, especially with a group over popcorn. I was the only one in the theater for this one, and the ticket taker gave me a weird look 🙈
