Mann’s finest. Fight me.
Ought to be required viewing for anyone who works for a living. Mann’s most political film, and in my opinion, his most beautiful: he somehow manages to make everyday Chicago look more beautiful than a postcard of Paris. It’s a coarse film about coarse people, but it’s beautiful. And yes, it’s a parable about labor masquerading as a crime film. Never has such needed medicine gone down so sweetly.
I tried to give this shit the benefit of the doubt, I truly did.
I’d say that this film is intended and executed as nothing more than an exercise in punching down at trans women who have less passing privilege than the filmmaker, except that the filmmaker doesn’t have nearly as much passing privilege as she thinks she has.
Imagine The Room with none of Wiseau’s earnestness or likability. Then imagine if The Room were shot handheld, using an off-brand…
