This movie explores the themes of the original Godzilla in a way the franchise has never done before. Its much more personal and grounded story is so well crafted that at first I thought it could stand alone, yet I don’t think it wouldn’t work without Godzilla, or at the least what Godzilla represents.
It’s a very brief review, but I think it’s accurate to how I felt about and reacted to the movie. It left me speechless.

The whole movie is very slow until the second half or so, in which Amalthea struggles with identity and how to go about her goal, if she even still wants to. King Haggard’s motivations were well written. However, I don’t think much else in this movie was super compelling to me, and I think it’s mostly a matter of pacing and execution.

I’m more invested in the kid’s story than the ape’s. Things just kinda happen and there isn’t a strong sense of theme or tone.
