In an earlier scene, Joe says to Ruben, “those moments of stillness, that place, that’s the kingdom of God. And that place will never abandon you.”
Towards the end, once Ruben finally comes back to his girlfriend, he realizes that he can’t go back to what it once was. During the ending scene Ruben just sits on the park bench, listening to the distorted sounds around him, reminding him of what he left behind for the sake of hearing again…
