The ultimate comfort movie. I cannot possibly feel bummed out or grumpy once I'm about two minutes into this film.

It's one of those films that's burned into my memory because I watched it so much as a kid, but thankfully it still holds up. Linklater is working in a much more commercial mode here, but the film is still made with style and has a rough-around-the-edges vibe which perfectly suits the material.

Jack Black has never been better. The kids are hilarious. Soundtrack rules. Lots of fun music-nerd easter eggs. Pure cinema baby.

    Pretty fun!

The script is clever, and even though I knew the twist it was still satisfying to watch the film set it up, drop the twist, and then to keep adding pay offs later on too.

Doesn't have a particularly interesting visual style and doesn't have a particularly novel angle on any of the themes that are being explored, but for a first time director this is a great calling-card movie and I was thoroughly entertained.

This falls hard into so many anime problems, such as: Unlikeable and personality-less main character who is solely defined by his love for a girl (also has vaguely dark backstory that…

Methinks this here nautical tale of woe and weird happenings be deserving of the full 5 stars of Poseidon.

I understood more of the dialogue this time! And appreciated the strange structuring of the film around quite separate vignettes that don't begin and end so much as sweep in and out of the viewers consciousness like the waves of the sea around the island setting, sometimes slow and methodical and other times raging and discordant.

    Really appreciated the depth of…
