  good story. told just okay. powerful narrative with a couple of captivating twists but also some redundant scenes and two dimensional characters.

  The last movie musical I saw was Cats. This was stories above it.

  I’ve always had a distaste for movie musicals because they often fall short in making me feel the way that a good live theater performance does. The sound doesn’t fill the space in the same way, and the solos lose a lot of their authenticity and character in post production. 

  West Side Story was different. I can’t pinpoint the reasons just yet but it was just a really emotional ride. 

  I also really appreciate the lack of subtitles. It was a conscious choice to not make one language inferior to the other.
