A Bullet for the General 1967
“Don’t buy bread, buy dynamite!”
Definitely representative of the Spaghetti Western genre as a whole. There is no explicit good, there isn’t no explicit bad. All characters have some moral ambiguity; from Santo who twists religious principles however he feels, to Chuncho acting for revolution, for money, and back and forth for the whole film. There is a reason Quién Sabe? was the original title for this film. All questions raised, plot-related or otherwise, can be answered with a very simple, very Italian, very Spaghetti Western “who knows?”. Despite that ambiguity tho the film is still extremely critical and well-placed with those critiques. Overall fun watch
