The Swimming Pool 1969
i wish films still looked like this. even if we shot 35mm, lit with tungsten lights from all angles, and tried coloring a film like this we’d struggle because they just don’t make clothes like they used to. the quality and colors of the wardrobe were so beautiful. that yellow outdoor table was perfect. as soon as i saw romy schneider grab that orange towel in the opening of the film i knew i was in for a treat.

Winter's Bone 2010
“tell a story that only you can tell” is one of my most cherished pieces of advice i ever got about film making. and i felt this was a story deeply rooted in the directors ethos. it had a unique identity and some strong performances. a bit bleak, but a necessary tone for the story. nice to see a director give j law the opportunity to shine as opposed to some of her recent projects.
