Really enjoyed the relaxed TV movie Americana drama for 90% of the runtime and then that scene comes out of left field. Seeing that on a taped from TV VHS with all the “it’s a true story” assertions would have ruined my life as a kid, no matter how many Woolworths Christmas adverts followed up to soften the blow. Id already be in bed staring at the wall.

Really enjoyed a lot of the first few acts but it absolutely bottles it by the last. Carried by Hugh grant’s performance but let down by some naff dialogue choices and very spotty characterisation in the female leads. Left it feeling it was all a bit of a shame and they didn’t really have an ending for it all.
