There's no trick. It's just a simple trick.

I have a "Homer Simpson as food critic" mentality when it comes to movies.

Picking your kid up from school...combat.
Looking for a foul ball in the woods...combat.
Supporting independent film...that's not combat, that's love.

Good fun. Also saw the director and Bill Lee in person, which complemented the experience.

Avoids or overcomes the problems with Bong's other English-language films. Has all of Bong's thematic and stylistic strengths, and the sci-fi context works. As for drawbacks, Mickey is perhaps too irresistible, Mickey 18 rather conveniently stops being antagonistic, and the end feels drawn out.

The original Power of the Dog. Wish Thunderbolt had made sure he had a good new home.

I am too cynical to be won over by the ending, but the film's pacing and suspense are top notch. The special effects hold up--more so than, say, "True Lies"--and the submarine and underwater work is as good as anything you'll see.
