When Evil Lurks 2023
The main criticism I've seen leveled at this film is that the characters make insanely dumb decisions from top to bottom. And that's true, pretty much nobody acts intelligently or does anything remotely sensible. And I even though that would usually drive me crazy, here I couldn't care less.

The Killer 2023
Fincher is such a meticulous craftsman that he couldn't have made a film this dull by accident, so I stuck with it to the end. While there were moments of tension and some sequences that have stuck with me, the main takeaway seems to be the slightness of it all. So much of it felt like a particularly by-the-numbers fetch quest.

Martyrs 2008
Despite its reputation and presence on countless lists of disturbing films, and having seen clips, and having knowing every single beat of the narrative, this was still a singularly disturbing experience. It's either zero stars or a 5 stars, there's no middle ground here.
Also, I highly recommend watching it on Pluto TV. There was something about random commercials for Dawn dish soap popping up at inopportune moments that actually added to the experience.
