The Good:
- Great soundtrack
- Easy to watch over a boring afternoon
- Jack Black lashing out
- Jack Black's voice
- Jack Black's existence
The Bad (or just meh):
- Uninteresting plot
- Lack of emotional depth in any of the relationships
- Could've been more comedic at times
One of those movies that after watching, you just want to read every letterboxd review on it. Reuniting Jesse and Celine after Before Sunrise is a bold choice. The first movie had the perfect ending of ambiguity (like Jesse's book). I don't want to know if they end up together after 6 months. I wish they do but then it makes it a fairy tale. I don't wish they don't either. It was balanced.
Before Sunset stands on it's own four feet as two imperfect dreamers collide again on the streets of Paris. This time, there's familiarity. There's a past that weighs heavy, a context.
Love, attraction and the magic of co-existence is great but I wish all of out could have more conversations like Celine and Jesse.
Conversations where there's no debates, no right or wrongs, or prejudice. Just an expression of thoughts and dreams.
Moments where we share our most intimate memories without the fear of being judged.
Space that allows us to speak from the deepest corner of our heart without the awkwardness of being misjudged.
Sometimes empathy is more important than a kiss
Sometimes freedom is more important than sex
Sometimes being is more important than rushing.
Sometime. Somewhere. Someone.
