The Piano Teacher 2001
i haven’t been so captivated by a film in a while. haneke navigates female sexual repression and fear of aging with surprising sensitivity and dripping empathy. as always, huppert plays the part of the cold, sniveling woman to a tee. this film to me is if irreversible, jeanne dielman and autumn sonata had a baby, with some complimentary sadomasochism, an illicit affair, jealous sabotage, schubert, an overbearing hitchcockian mother and lots of perfectly composed shots of huppert’s impeccably coiffed head.
